Christopher Ward C70 Brooklands Watch

Posted the 15th day of October in 2010 by TheHobbit.

Christopher Ward will be launching a limited edition watch in October titled the C70 Brooklands. The C70 is part of the C70 Grand Prix series of watches that celebrates the original six races that eventually became known as today's Formula 1. Brooklands was a purposely built motor racing circuit near Surrey, England. It opened in 1907 and ran for many years, until it was closed in 1939 at the onset of World War 2. It is one of the very few race circuits with banking corners. The C70 Brooklands celebrates this great circuit.

It is a beautiful watch. The green color of the dial represents the chassis colors of the nation's racing colors, in this case British Racing Green. The watch is a limited edition watch with a run of only 200 pieces. The C70 features the following functionality: hours, minutes, seconds, date (4:30 o'clock) and chronograph.

The chronograph on this watch is unique as the minute indicator is centrally mounted. The C70 Brooklands is powered by the popular ETA 251.232 quartz movement. This movement is super accurate and has been awarded the C.O.S.C. certification. The movement is thermo-compensated and has an independent adjustable hour hand, which is great if you travel. The movement is also set apart by having 27 jewels.

The watch is encased in a stainless steel case, 42 mm in diameter and 10.7 mm thick. The sapphire crystal is domed. The C70 is water resistant to  10 ATM and comes fitted with a Spanish 'Toro Bravo' Italian leather strap. Every watch will be serialized. The retail price is about $680 USD.

Lancaster Bongo Chronograph 0548BKNRAR

Posted the 15th day of October in 2010 by TheHobbit.

The Bongo Chronograph is from the Lancaster Watch Company. The Lancaster Watch Company was founded in 1992, and went international in 1995. The watches are made for Lancaster by four Swiss watch manufacturers. The watch, reference 0548BKNRAR is a large watch. This model offers the following functionality: hours, minutes, seconds, date (4:30 o'clock) and chronograph.

The watch is available in IP Black coating, stainless steel or gold (coating?). The watch comes in at 45 mm in diameter and is 11.5 mm thick. The lug width is 22 mm. The watch is fitted with a mineral crystal. All Bongos are issued with a rubber strap.

The Bongo Chronograph is powered by a Miyota calibre OS20, which is a quartz movement. It has a water resistance rating of 10 ATM. The watch will retail for about $490 USD.

To digress, IP Coating stands for ion-plating coating. It is similar to PVD, Physical Vapour Deposition. It is the basic form of coating the case of a watch. Other methods include CVD, Chemical Vapour Deposition and DLC (some say the best) Diamond-like Coating.

RSW Outland 3H Watch

Posted the 12th day of October in 2010 by TheHobbit.

The RSW Outland 3H watch is one unique watch, with its industrial look and rows of hex-bolts above and below the dial. The strong black design is balanced out by a bit of color on the dial. There's four flavors to choose from.

RSW is a brand of Rama Watch SA. It was founded in early 2000 by M.A. Marachly, and the company is based in Switzerland. RSW makes contemporary looking watches for discerning collectors.

The 3H continues the saga of the Outland collection. In this watch, the disc design for time telling has been replaced by a normal looking 3 hands, hence the name 3H. This does not mean that in this latest incarnation the Outland is no longer futuristic. In fact, far from it. It keeps the neo-brutalism design the original Outland watch is known for. Best of all, it still maintains the famous folding crank-crown mechanism.

The watch looks very industrial with the front of the watch adorned by 6 very large hex-bolts. There's three on the top and three at the bottom. The font used for the hour index markers are reminiscent of the digits seen on digital watches. Besides a number of dial color variations, the watch is available in stainless steel or a PVD/stainless steel combination.

Outland 3H specifications:

  • Functions: hours, minutes, seconds and date
  • Movement: ETA 2824-2 automatic movement
  • Case: stainless steel PVD Black
  • Case size: 52 x 44 mm
  • Crystal: sapphire
  • Water resistant: 10 ATM
  • Price: $2,100 USD
