Casio Japan has announced a new series of Edifice watches. These three new models draw their design inspiration from automotive racing. Each is a solar-powered chronograph with the theme of "Speed and Intelligence." The watches are driven by five independent motors. Each is rated to 100M and features 28 months of power reserve. There's no word on retail prices yet, but these should start hitting retailers soon.

PRESS RELEASE:

TOKYO, January 24, 2011 — Casio Computer Co., Ltd., announced today the release of three new additions to its EDIFICE line of metal watches—the EQS-1100DB, EQS-1000DB, and EQS-700DB. These chronograph watches are solar-powered and their bold design exudes the EDIFICE concept of “Speed and Intelligence.”

As with all models in the EDIFICE line, these new metal watches evoke the image of motor sports. With multiple hands on the watch face, they boast sporty looks and functions with an even greater sense of motion than before. Five independent motors driven by Casio’s Tough Solar power system, which charges the watch in sunlight, drive the hands and disk indicators to deliver dynamic motion. Each watch is a high-performance chronograph that is water-resistant up to 100 meters.

EQS-1100DB includes a dual-layer face capable of displaying 1/1000 of a second

The watch face of the EQS-1100DB features a three-dimensional look achieved using a dual-layer face design, with different textures on the upper and underlying dials. The two disk indicators in the face evoke the image of a car wheel or disc brake. The chronograph uses two small hands in the dial at the 2-o’clock position to show minutes and seconds, a hand that displays values of 1/10 of a second in the center position, and a disk indicator at the 9-o’clock position that displays values of 1/100 or 1/1000 of a second in turn immediately after the stopwatch measurement is finished.

EQS-1000DB features a dual-layer, mechanical-style face design

The EQS-1000DB also offers a three-dimensional look, achieved by cutting away a part of the upper dial of the dual-layer face to expose the contrasting form of the underlying dial, to emphasize the active image and functionality of the watch. The disk indicator at the 9-o’clock position, reminiscent of a car’s disc brake, displays the day and watch mode. The indicator rotates when using the stopwatch, which measures values of 1/20 of a second, to express a sense of speed and motion.

EQS-700DB face boasts a triple-gauge design

Featuring a face design based on the motif of a racing car’s three main gauges, the EQS-700DB conveys the speed inherent in motor sports. The small hands in the dial at the 3-o’clock position show seconds and minutes, and a hand in the center position displays values of 1/10 of a second while each revolution indicates one second. The stopwatch can display values of 1/100 of a second using the small hand in the dial at the 9-o’clock position immediately after the stopwatch measurement is finished. Driven by five motors, the hands of the watch move around independently, creating a lively and dynamic appearance overall. This model also includes an internal rotating dial ring for determining elapsed time with the minute hand in the center position.

For all three models, the dynamic dials, black bezel, and sporty looking formed stainless steel case add up to a truly bold face design.
