Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 'Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung'

Posted the 27th day of June in 2011 by TheHobbit.

BLANCPAIN have released a special edition of the Fifty Fathoms for 2011. This follows the highly popular Fifty Fathoms ‘Tribute to Fifty Fathoms’ with its iconic No Radiation logo.

The new watch, the Fifty Fathoms 'Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung', comes with a number of changes over the current Fifty Fathoms in the details on its dial, bezel and strap. The watch simply bears the text 'Aqua Lung' like its predecessors at the 12 o’clock position. The other changes over the current Fifty Fathoms include new hands, different hour markers, the removal of the minute markers (first 15 minutes) on the bezel and a new strap. The new strap comes complete with circular holes, the way many original Aqua Lung's straps were typically designed back in the '60s.

There is not much more information on the watch at the moment. We will update this once more information is available.

Panerai Time and Space - A Tribute to Galileo Galilei Exhibition

Posted the 23rd day of May in 2011 by TheHobbit.

Panerai is currently having an exhibition called 'Time and Space - A Tribute to Galileo Galilei Exhibition'. The exhibition is being held in Shanghai, China and will be open to the public from May 20th to 31st.

Extracted from Panerai:

'Officine Panerai has chosen Shanghai for the only international staging of “Time and Space: a Tribute to Galileo Galilei”, the exhibition in which Officine Panerai puts a range of the most important watches and instruments from its own historical and contemporary collections on display. The show, taking place at the Shanghai Sculpture Space and open to the public from 20th to 31st May 2011, culminates with the exhibition of the “astronomical” triptych made by Officine Panerai as a tribute to Galileo Galilei, on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his first celestial observations.

Having premiered in Florence in September 2010, the exhibition comes to Shanghai in a version enriched by the Officine Panerai 2011 collections, and explores three stages. The first is that of history, which uses select pieces from the Panerai Museum to trace the development and establishment of the Panerai brand, from its roots as a Florentine workshop to preferred supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy.

The second stage covers the brand’s international fame following its acquisition by the Richemont group in 1997: a large room displays the most symbolic timepieces of the 14 years in which Officine Panerai renewed the former glory of its iconic watches, the Luminors and Radiomirs, quickly developing a complete range of movements designed and produced in-house in its Neuchâtel factory. This section also features a selection of watches from the latest Officine Panerai collection, including models with the new hand-wound mechanical P.3000 calibre and the Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Bronzo – 47 mm.

The third stage is a tribute to Galileo Galilei, the genius to whom Officine Panerai, celebrating its shared Tuscan origins and love for science and innovation, has dedicated an “astronomical” triptych, formed from three exceptionally complicated models: L’Astronomo (Luminor 1950 Equation of Time Tourbillon Titanio – 50 mm), Lo Scienziato (Radiomir Tourbillon GMT Ceramica – 48 mm) and the planetarium clock Panerai Jupiterium.'

Bell & Ross BR02 Phantom

Posted the 21st day of May in 2011 by TheHobbit.

Bell & Ross has announced a new BR02 Phantom watch. First, a little history lesson for persepctive. The BR02 was first introduced in 2007. The chronograph version was then introduced in 2008, and the colorful Limited Edition BR02 Blue and Orange appeared in 2009.

So for 2011, Bell & Ross has decided not only to introduce the Phantom to the BR02, they have also updated the watch. Gone are the sword hands with the Orange minute hands. It has been replaced with a more elegant looking handset.

The watch case of the Phantom will be PVD black, with filled and applied black SuperLuminova Arabic hour markers and hands. The dial features a ‘Clous De Paris’ pattern. Even the HEV will be rendered in black, without the orange highlights of the standard model. These changes give it a very stealthy look.

Basic specifications:
Functions: hours, minutes, seconds and date (4:30 o’clock position)
Movement: ETA 2892 automatic caliber
Case: stainless steel PVD black, 44 mm diameter
Crystal: sapphire with AR coating
Movement: automatic ETA 2892, 25 jewels, 28,800 A/h, power reserve 42 hours
