Christopher Ward of UK will be launching their C60 Trident GMT line of watches in October. This will be their first GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) watch. It is also known as a dual time watch. These new watches are very exciting. It is a true GMT movement, where the 12 hour hand can be set independently from the 24 hour hand. This is similar to the system used in the Rolex GMT Master II and the Omega Seamaster GMT.

Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMTSKKO - $705 USD

First a little about Christopher Ward watch company. It is small British company that was was founded on a boat on the River Thames in 2004 by Mike France, Chris Ward and Peter Ellis. Its mission is to design high quality Swiss-made luxury watches that are "the cheapest most expensive watches in the world". I believe they are well on their way to achieving this goal.

Anyway, back to the watch. The C60 Trident GMT will feature the following functions: hours, minutes, seconds, date and dual time. The watch measures in at 42mm diameter, and is 13mm in height. The case is constructed of marine grade steel. The crystal, which is sapphire, has anti reflection coating and is 4mm thick. It will be powered by a customized ETA 2893-2. This movement allows for the independent setting of the dual time function, and date change (forward and backward) with the 12 hour hand. The movement also hacks. I like the Trident sweep second hand, from which the watch gets its name. The watch is water resistant to 300m or 30 ATM. Not many GMT watches offers such a level of water resistance. It also has an anodized aluminum uni-directional bezel which can act as a third time zone.

Christopher Ward C60 Trident GMT GMTSKS - $767

The watch is available on either a leather strap, rubber strap or metal bracelet. Each watch will be individually serialized. As with any Christopher Ward watches, these watches will have a 60 month warranty. The watches are expected to retail for about $700-800 USD, depending on what type of strap you choose.

This year the Surfrider Foundation teamed up with Casio to release a new limited edition G-Shock watch. The GRX-5600SRF-3 is a brightly-colored yellow and green combination that really stands out. Every sale of these watches goes to support the non-profit organization in their work to preserve the world's oceans. This is the 12th collaboration watch they have done with Casio since 1995. These are available world-wide right now, but only a couple thousand units have been produced. It will probably sellout within the next couple months, so take a look and see if this one is worth pulling the trigger on now.

Sinn has announced a new 900 Pilot S model watch. This chronograph features a Swiss automatic ETA caliber Valjoux 7750 with 26 jewels. There's a power reserve of 42 hours and a GMT complication. It has a 42mm stainless steel case with PVD black hard coating. The sapphire crystal features an AR-coating. And the nickel-free case back has five different imperial.metric conversion scales imprinted on it. Look for this watch to go on sale soon.

Sinn 900 Pilot S Chronograph Aviator Watch

There will be a James Bond watch exhibit September 10th and 11th at the National Watch & Clock Museum in Columbia, Pennsylvania. This is just one part of the Bond Enthusiasts Weekend event. Eight of the limited edition James Bond watches with be on display, including the SPW001 diving watch that Roger Moore wore as 007 in the movie 'A View to a Kill'. Ian Fleming's personal Rolex 1016 Explorer watch will also be at this event. It looks like a good time for anyone in the area. Check out the video in the link to see what's going on there.

The horology Crazy blog has a good tutorial on how to make modifications to regular watch straps. Sometimes you'll find that the band is a little too long for your taste, and on rubber straps it just takes a little work to get a good custom length. This guide shows how it's done on a Seiko diver. There's lots of photos of the entire process and the proper tools required for the job.

Seiko has announced details on their new EPD watch with an innovative active matrix display. The high resolution 300 dpi e-ink screen allows a whole range of functions to be displayed on the screen without using too much battery life. Similar to the technology used in ebook readers like the Amazon Kindle, this watch will be easily readable from most any viewing angle. It's whole new type of digital watch. Being able to reconfigure the entire display on demand allows for a wide range of interfaces and options. These also have an atomic time sync feature and solar charging. The battery will last up to nine months without any exposure to light. Look for these new watches to be released later this year.
